About wisdom teeth: the concept of being under complete anesthesia to get your wisdom teeth out is rather unheard of here. I'm sure it exists, but I've talked to way more people from the states that get them out that way than over here, regardless of whether the teeth show already.
I had a pretty bad experience with getting one of them out (the first one). It was so grown into my bone that they had to cut it into pieces, but since that means cutting straight through the nerve and the local anesthetics don't work that well there (even if they inject it directly into the nerve, it's transported away almost immediately), I was in a lot of pain. They tried to give me laughing gas, but nobody told me that it can kind of make you high, I had never even been drunk at that point in my life and suddenly started perceiving the world differently, which freaked me out. So, they had to do parts with me in pain. The doctor even had to call her boss to help pull the pieces in the end, the tooth was that stuck... The three after that were also removed under local anesthesia only. Yet, I'm not scared of dentists. I have had various braces for 6 or 7 years, I'm used to weird stuff going on in my mouth, including pain. It definitely made me scared of anesthesia though, since it seemed to wear off faster than they expected for me, and in different circumstances that sounds kind of uncomfortable... |

Surprised at how powdery the snow is. Usually it's not cold enough here.
I've managed to break my only charging cord. I thought I had two others that had broken fast charging but still did something. I can't find them and have a feeling I threw them away. I'll have to walk to a nearby gas station and hopefully they have some. And are open. Of course, I will deserve a treat for doing this. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. One of my sockets had to be opened up again and debrided because it was causing me pain. Surgeon said there was a higher than normal amount of inflammation. No general anesthesia for that, but it was fine. I was scared going in at the idea of him opening up the stitches and scraping tissue out because that sounds pretty awful. Quote:
I once woke up during a colonoscopy, but that wasn't upsetting since I wasn't in pain. I think the US is the odd one out in terms of sedating for colonoscopies anyway. I think I tend to fall asleep with laughing gas. Or maybe it has an amnesia effect. They really blast the laughing gas here in my experience. I remember the dentist saying to turn it up because I was still alert last time I had a filling. I'm always far too out of it to perceive anything other than intense sleepiness. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. -David Gerrold |

As far as I know Switzerland has some of the highest expertise in dental care. I was never screened for how badly my tooth was stuck and at some point you can't just call an ambulance, I think it was fine.

Welcome to the couch, old and new! A place to hang out - sometimes you get immediate feedback, sometimes you don't.
Shouting, "Cool Whip" tends to bring others out from between the cushions if you're feeling lonely. This is a chatty thread. All are welcome. We're kind of psychologically oriented, sometimes. We try to be supportive. At times we discuss what that means. It’s a place to plop down on the couch when you come home from work or wherever, or wake up in the middle of the night, or check in at lunch, rant a bit or not, and be among friends. We advise you not to drink or drug and text your therapist ("T") - we speak from experience. Sometimes the thread moves fast and you might get overlooked; sometimes it moves slowly and all you hear are crickets. Sometimes you get hugged or thanked pages later. So if it's a bigger question, you might want to start a new thread. Grab a cushion, a spot on the floor, or an armchair in the corner and make yourselves comfy. 235 is the number of some US court case in 1958 about having standing to contest a will. Idk, seemed interesting when i came acrost it last night! |

I didn't feel like showering this morning it was too cold in my bathroom haha so I was going to at lunch, but then I started playing a game on my phone and then got distracted with going through a bookshelf and now I have only 2 minutes left of my lunch break. Oops. Good thing I work at home. I guess I'll be showering after work.

8 more work days left in the month!! As long as each work day has felt, overall it feels like it has gone fast. i'm still making those crochet butterflies in the evenings and distributing them around my part of town, with little tags that say "I'm not lost, I'm just alone. If I made you smile, please take me home." (see Random Acts of Crochet Kindness USA on Facebook) Today on my after-work walk I dropped one in a stroller at the park, the mom was playing with her daughter over on the slide when I walked by. The rest I hung in trees along the walking path. Lots of people walk on it so they should get picked up pretty quickly, I hope! I sincerely hope they make even one person smile in these crazy times. Need to find a heart pattern or something like that for Valentine's day drops. Then something for St Patty's and Easter.... I really like having something useful to do with the scrap yarn that I have leftover from projects. And using some of the yarn my friend gave me awhile back too. And crocheting is so relaxing for me, too! So it's a win-win.

Kudzu was one of my favorite comic strips.

Today I have unloaded the dishwasher and put the recycling in my bedroom out the window into the bin. Well, except for two boxes that have somehow been filled with stuff. I think it's mostly sheets and blankets that need to be washed, which is better than full of random stuff I want but don't know where to put. Maybe I will put in the washer before bed. And maybe I will finish re-loading the dishwasher. Maybe. Stranger things have happened. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. -David Gerrold |

I wish my body agreed with me that treats earned through miserable toil ought not to count.

Has anyone here got loads of money? I am starting to think that many of life's problems are solved by money. I am (almost) 46 and I am just realising that I should have prioritised earning money. My family is poor and whilst I have moved social class and have some relative financial stability, I don't have much money.
With money, we could pay cleaners and buy whatever we wanted! Air fryers and pre-built cat towers all round for everyone! No health insurance limitations, as much wine as we could drink! We would be glorious, life would be easier. |

My air fryer was free (consumer study) but the cat tower took like 3 hours because none of it was assembled. I want a pre-built cat tower, but I also want a nice one which means it will be large and heavy. And I can't have anyone coming in my house to deliver it or assemble it for me. Obviously.
I could technically get some sort of maid service, but I think those are intended for light cleaning. The therapist keeps bringing this up, but I don't think the regular maid services deal with this level of mess. A crime scene cleanup firm would probably more suitable and less likely to be angry. I have to believe that my mess is preferable to blood and guts or fluids from a decomposing corpse. Right? What I really need is a robot who will just constantly clean up after me, but who won't be appalled at my disorganization or judge me for making a big mess wherever I go. I've told my sister she needs to win the lottery so that I won't have to work and can just live a life of leisure. She's making no effort to realize my dream, however. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. -David Gerrold |

If I had a lot of money, I could fund somebody to design my robot. The Japanese might eventually but right now they're too busy making robots as companions to old people.

This language is going to kick my *** down the street and back, six ways from Sunday. Give me quantitative metathesis and the locative case any day. __________________ The secret to eternal youth is arrested development.—Alice Roosevelt Longworth |
