For the last few weeks I have been trying to get back into Therapy and the closest I have gotten was a place that told me to call back weekly to see if they had any openings (although today they said to call again in 2 weeks), apparently according to my insurance I have to go to a place in my own county, which really makes no sense because for about 3.5 years I went to a place in another county (although it was on the border with my own county so maybe that's why I was able to go there). The problem is that I live in a fairly small county but the surrounding counties are all bigger. Has anyone else had this issue before.

That's really weird. It looks like you're in the US, and I thought it was generally just that you had to see someone in your own state, mainly due to therapist licensing issues. I'd try contacting insurance again and asking them to clarify.

They said that it had something to do with my insurance plan, I called the insurance place directly.

my suggestion is dont look at "County" mental health services if you dont want to be limited to your county. many insurance companies now do have designated areas that they will pay for. this is because its now American Law that all americans have health insurance that includes mental health coverage. many insurance companies now "pre assign" what mental health agency a person with their insurance must use. my suggestion is contact your insurance company ask them to send you a member booklet that lists treatment providers on their plan. then contact those treatment providers. yes you may have a long wait. you may have to be patient as various mental health services in the USA adjust their caseloads to meet state and federal guidelines with number of cases that also allow for time in between for room cleaning / sterilizing due to covid and things moving back to "in person" treatment. Some places have opted to remain with online therapy instead of in person which leaves some changing providers and a flux of people trying to get in to those agencies that are doing in person therapy. its going to be hard for a while to get in to a new therapist. maybe you can call a past therapist and see if that past therapist could slip you in somewhere in their schedule as an emergency appointment, then they can help you get set up with another therapist if you dont want to stay with the past therapist. |

With a regular health insurance (typically provided by employer) as long as therapist (or a doctor) in your network and your state you could see them. If you have state health plan like Medicaid or Medicare and are getting therapy through county services, then yea you need to see someone in a county. Ask them for some names

I have been on a wait list for Therapy for over a year at the place I had been seeing a Psychiatrist at so I know what it is like to have to wait things out.
