I'm going through some kinda significant health issues right now and I'm worried my current therapist is going to think she is not capable of giving me what I need. I'm worried she'll switch me to someone who knows and speciliazes more in chronic illnesses or something like that. I really don't want to switch again, I feel like we have a pretty good therapy relationship. But these issues just keep getting more intense and are straying farther from being mental health related. I see her on Wednesday and I have a lot of things to talk about that just happened since we last met 5 days ago. I've been switched around before to speciality therapists for a "higher level of care" as they put it and I'm worried this will turn out to be the same. Is there a chance this can and will happen?

I don't know if it can/will happen, but I'd suggest asking her that right at the start of when you're telling her about this. Express your fears right up front. Ideally, she'd reassure you that she wouldn't switch you unless you wanted to switch. I hope she won't.

And I'm really sorry you're going through this...I hope you'll be OK.

I would start off with I'm going through a lot and I don't want to be switched.

If she is out of her depth, it would only be ethical for her to refer you to someone with more skills and/or expertise. Sometimes clients need more 'specialised' care. Plus, the issues you mention i.e. health issues seem pretty important to be going without support.

She would even be considered a 'bad' therapist if she let clients go through health issues without providing (additional) support.

She said she wouldn't switch me. She is confident she can handle my health issues. She does though want me to meet with her supervisor who specializes in eating disorders as a one time only thing to try to get my eating back on track. I told her I'd think about it. She claims it will only be a one time thing and I want to believe her I just don't want the supervisor to see stuff that maybe my T isn't seeing. Even though theres nothing to see at all. My eating habits are tied back to my health issues. If you feel like crap physically of course your not going to be eating much. She doesn't seem to really get this though. I do want to lose weight if I am being honest, and I do sometimes have restrcting like traits but I also have autism which can mess with how you view food. But the majority of whats been going on this entire year with food has been physical stuff.
