I just started therapy for health anxiety... my therapist did come up with a good one that I had never considered.
I had a 10 year long illness when I was a kid. It is all set now. I really never think about it. But my therapist pointed out that you can't go through that and have the same amount of trust in your body that someone who was healthy all their lives would. This is probably why I react so badly to the slightest issue with my body... lack of trust in it. |

My own therapist has asked me the same question and he very much does not want me to die or is encouraging me to attempt to do so. The question was asked to get me to think about what is keeping me alive and how to further use that information, not to encourage me to kill myself. I obviously wasn't in the room with your friend, but I'll go out on a limb and say that the vast majority of therapists are not in the profession to push people to kill themselves.
