Today (without any advanced notice) my Therapist told me that today was our final session and that she would no longer be coming to the place I am doing Therapy at. She say that it was due to things that were beyond her control and that she was sorry that things were ending so abruptly. Since there was no advanced notice I treated it just like any other session. Always sad when a Therapist leaves but this was even more so since there was no advanced notice. They told me that the place will be calling me sometime next week to set me up with a new Therapist.

Ugh, I'm really sorry. A therapist should give more notice than that. I know I'd be a total mess if that happened.
I hope you like whoever the new therapist is that you get. I guess there's no option to follow this one to wherever they're going? |

Well here is the deal, the Therapist said that should would be doing phone sessions with certain clients but thought that it would probably be better for me to continue seeing someone in person.

Ah, OK. Do you agree with that, how you should be seeing someone in person? |

I'm sorry you're going through this, RTerroni.
I hope the new therapist is helpful for you, and I hope you are able to take some time to process this abruptness over the next few days. __________________ 'Somewhere up above the great divide Where the sky is wide, and the clouds are few A man can see his way clear to the light 'You have all the grace you need for today, and today is all that matters.' - Steve Austin |

I'm sorry, RTerroni. It just baffles me that therapists can just up and do this. I don't understand it one bit, when the quote relationship is supposed to be so important. I hope your next t is a good fit and is helpful for you.

Is it possible that she was fired or downsized?

That is unfortunate. But it seems it was more about her place of work and/or the practice's policy, than your therapist's choice. Looks like your T was forced into terminating...
That is the problem with practices, they are not very client-care oriented but more business-profit-money oriented - kinda like lawyers. |

Ugh, I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. The same thing happened to me many years ago. I was seeing a t every week for 6 years. I was very bonded with him, then suddenly he was reassigned (this was through the veteran's admin). I had absolutely no advanced noticed and it was an awful experience. I didn't seek therapy for 22 years after that loss. I dreamt about him, disturbing dreams, for years. When I bonded with my new t the dreams finally stopped.
