My therapist was talking about a gene testing for psych meds. Then she showed me her own results. And started talking about the pysch meds she had tried. I casually asked what she took meds for and she said she didnt mind the question and that she was dealing with a lot of anxiety.
Is it strange for a therapist to just pull up the results of a psych meds test? Or am I being the weird one? __________________ I'm Blue |

I find it a bit odd she'd show you the actual results of her test, but maybe it was to help convince you to take it? (Like, "I took it and it helped me," though she also could have said that without showing you!)
My former marriage counselor shared early on that he also had "an anxiety disorder," which I do as well. It helped me feel I could trust him more. Like he understood. My backup therapist, R, has mentioned having some anxiety and also suggested she had some childhood trauma. So I don't think it's that uncommon. My therapist hasn't shared anything (I wouldn't expect him to--he mentioned his wife having ADHD though, maybe because my husband and daughter do as well) and neither did my ex-T (though she seemed pretty together). |

Well, she is definitely not a "blank slate" analyst! She sounds more like a supportive therapist. So what would be weird for one type of therapy might not be weird for a different type. Like, some therapists hug clients, while others wont even shake hands.

This is a red flag to me. A therapist shouldn’t be disclosing their own medical/mental healthy history imo. It’s one thing to briefly mention she also struggles with anxiety as a form of self disclosure to help build trust and strengthen the relationship and another to show you the meds she has taken and pull up her chart.
