If you mentioned to your therapist that you had gained weight and had to buy new pants and then the next session when you were wearing the new pants she made some comment like "oh are those the new pants? I like them" would that bother you?

Or am I just being overly sensitive?

This hasn't happened yet but I'm worried it will when I wear the new pants tommorow.

One time i wore pants i had unearthed, that were still cotton knit jersey but not leggings that i was growing out of, and my male t said, oh you got pants that fit. Yeah i wanted to kill him. But mostly because, im thinking, why didnt you say something before instead of letting me embarrass myself in pubic/public, like my family would always do?! "Oh i thought you knew, i thought you wanted it to be horrible." Morons.

No - it wouldn't bother me - but if it did - I would tell the therapist to stop making comments about my clothes because I didn't hire them as a fashion consultant

Maybe just mention you've gained weight adding what you've had to do might bring on a reassurance from T.. But if like my T she would never acknowledge what I was wearing.

No it would not bother me. Myself and my T often talk hair and clothes etc. It’s nice to feel like a normal person from time to time.
Do you and your T ever talk about clothes etc ? If so and this time is different due to the weight gain you mentioned you could tell her that you are sensitive about that right now and it could lead to a good discussion ?
If not, I highly doubt she would bring it up

It would not bother me at all.

It would not bother me at all if my therapist commented "oh are those the new pants? I like them."

But it seems to bother you, and that might be something to think about and discuss.

Suppose you were the therapist and your patient wore new pants to the session, what would you say if you wanted to make a compliment?

It wouldn't bother me at all (even coming from a therapist) but I am also someone who tends to compliment people on their clothes if they are bright, funky, or interesting clothes. For example, I saw someone in the grocery store yesterday with this cool, vintage looking hot pink blazer with big colorful flowers on it. I couldn't help but say "wow, love your blazer!" as I walked by them.

I hope it didn't offend them. I think maybe people that wear bright and interesting clothes out in public are okay with others noticing that. I try not to be obnoxious about it but I do have a tendency to throw an unsolicited compliment towards a cool outfit now and then.

Are your new pants interesting or colorful?
