I am being told by medical doctors and the nurse who did my at home visit for my insurance that I need to lose 50 pounds. My pdoc was even offering to put me on Wegovy. I know losing weight will greatly improve my physical and mental health. I've lost 5 pounds so far and I feel great.
But my therapist is giving me a super hard time about my weight loss. Each session she talks about healthy at any size and grills me on what I've eaten that day. She does not agree about losing weight. I don't want to get fired but I don't want to be 210 pounds either. I've tried talking to her about the positive changes I've made and she just has this mindset that any sort of weight loss done any sort of way is bad. Idk she just doesnt get it.

But - you gained 50 lbs when you were previously at this nirvana mental and physical healthy state, no? That leads me to believe that you were in neither, otherwise this magic number you seek would have prevented any recidivism. I.e., you woulda had your shyte so tightly together that nothing would have moved it off mark.
So what i think your t is saying, develop healthy body and mind practices where you are NOW, with no other goal than a healthy practice. Then you would be guarded - girded? - against a med change that causes weight gain, for instance, and be conscious and aware and calm enough to do what it takes to nip it in the bud. For instance - more water, less pop is a good health practice. You are successful every day that happens NOW. You dont have to wait for the future. More such healthy practices will get you where you want to be. |

I think your t focuses on healthy life style rather than on particular weight. There are ton of skinny people who are very unhealthy and lead terrible life style. She does not want want you to focus on weight loss but rather in being healthy, at any weight

Yes, focusing on diet and healthy eating might be more in the realm of the dietician than the T, because lets face it, people (including many T's) may struggle with the idea of foregoing their favourite fatty sweet foods themselves. They don't want to think about it! So, maybe that's why your T want's to skip the subject. S/he might already be healthy weight but still not have knowledge of the dietician, Mountaindewed.
