I just went for a night walk and saw my therapist with her child and a friend trick or treating around the village. We walked right past each other, I ignored her. She lives in the middle of nowhere and this is her nearest village, so it's understandable in one sense, but I really don't like it. I am back home now hoping that she won't knock on the door. I won't answer because get off my lawn and go and earn your chocolate you lazy little blighters, but it feels really uncomfortable. Weirdly, I feel like I have intruded upon her in some way. I don't know whether to email her just to acknowledge that I saw her and don't like it. We had a session earlier today.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, Comrade.
I've often felt that it would be really uncomfortable to bump into R. I would hope that your therapist would have the presence of mind not to knock on your door, as that would be shaky in ethical terms, even if she isn't in therapist mode at that particular time. Perhaps it could be session fodder for your next meeting, rather than an email? __________________ 'Somewhere up above the great divide Where the sky is wide, and the clouds are few A man can see his way clear to the light 'You have all the grace you need for today, and today is all that matters.' - Steve Austin |

I don't expect T's to remember a client's address. I never told Rob mine even after 3.5 years of seeing him. The intrusion does make sense. I personally dislike Halloween and always have since I was a child. I've thought it was bigger for Americans than us. I'm also not a fan of Black Friday being pushed on us too. __________________ |

She doesn't know this address so she wouldn't know if it was my door or not, she is just aware that I am in the village. I could wait, I am not distressed or anything so it's not important in that sense. I feel like I want to pass it back to her in some way. As much as I felt like I was intruding, it was also her coming up against my boundary and I want to push back. I am feeling very disconnected from her at the moment so maybe this is a way of me seeking to aggravate that.

Sorry, I misunderstood.
You make a good point, Cake. __________________ 'Somewhere up above the great divide Where the sky is wide, and the clouds are few A man can see his way clear to the light 'You have all the grace you need for today, and today is all that matters.' - Steve Austin |

It is an overlap between two worlds that normally stay separate.
Even if you're not distressed. If acknowledging it would ease the feeling, a brief email could help reset boundaries. If the feeling fades or doesn't disrupt things for you, it might also be fine to also let it go. It’s likely that she will understand the inherent boundary discomfort here and could address it in your next session. __________________ |

I think she will definitely understand the boundary discomfort. Yes, it's the overlap and also that it was not on my terms.
