SD, my husband had this issue. The called it SVT supraventricular tachycardia. They used an IV medication to bring it down. A couple times they also pushed another med (sorry, can’t remember the names) and waited for a pretty immediate response. They had the crash cart ready to use to shock his heart into normal rhythm if the meds weren’t working (fortunately they did).

The plan was that he would have cardiac ablation down the road. We never got that far because of the Covid though.

My father had cardiac ablation at one point for a different cardiac issue. It did improve things.

I hope your dad responds and they find a solution for the tachycardia. It’s a lot. Keep us updated.

Sorry about your dad. My Apple Watch once flagged my heart rate as high when I certainly didn’t notice it. One watch and over three years later, it still has a record of it.

I have the opposite problem - my heart rate is low -brachycardia I think is the name

My dad had something similar about a year ago. They got his heart back into rhythm and it hasn't happened since. He ame to stay with me for a couple days. He was tired and took it easy for 2-3 weeks, then decided he was fine and went back to cutting trees and digging up his garden- but he wears a smart watch now. Hope they get your dad on the mend soon.

My dad is in the hospital - he wasn't feeling good and then his apple watch alerted him to his heart rate being up to 190 (he was just in bed reading) so they went to urgent care who called ambulance and now he is hooked up to all sorts of things -the tests are so far inconclusive -but he is raving good things about the watch now to any poor intern, rn, lpn, and candy striper he can according to his wife

I hope your dad is OK. That's quite a high heart rate for just sitting there--good his watch alerted him.

To people in the US: my parents are planing to move to the US. How do people there find a good healh insurance? Do you just google or are there some that are known for being "better" (for example coverage in all states or something like that)?

I've always had health insurance through my employer and there's little to no choice. They might start with healthcare.gov which is an official government site for finding insurance coverage.

What NP_Complete said. Also, many plans are state-specific (though they'd still provide some coverage in other states, like if they were traveling). Do they know where they're moving to yet?

Something they need to pay attention to when picking a plan is the deductible. That's the amount they'd have to pay completely out of pocket before insurance kicks in and cover part of it. So like if a plan has a $5,000 deductible, they have to pay for $5,000 worth in care before insurance starts paying some or all. There are exceptions for some forms of preventive care, like an annual physical is generally free.

Another thing to consider is prescription coverage, especially if they take regular medications. Some plans have a separate deductible for prescriptions; others combine it.

I could give more info, too (like in-network vs. out-of-network coverage), but don't want to overwhelm you!

I wondered about Medicare, too--but wasn't sure how it worked if someone was moving to the US from another country.

I think you don’t have to be a citizen, but you do have to be at least a permanent resident, which is like 5 years.

Otherwise, it’s the marketplace.

If I was changing countries - the US would not even be in the top 10. I am looking into ex-pat places right now - hoping it can be a little later than sooner but it might have to be sooner.
