The mental part of it will fall into place when you see change-I think. I feel as though we're constantly thinking about the students' needs (and that's how it should be) but there is little space to consider our own capacity as practitioners.

My colleagues seem to forget that I have a life outside of work, and more importantly that I don't drive...so I have to arrange transport to be able to fulfil my duties.

I'm feeling really down today. I don't think I'm going to find another therapist I connect with like I do with P. I'm really going to miss him when he's gone. I don't know how I'm supposed to do this. I know it's still 3 months away, but I'm dreading this so, so much.

I'm sorry, NP.

It's another huge change, when you've already endured so much.
Knowing that it's out of your control doesn't help.

I hope you can find a therapist who can support you to the extent that you need.

Taking time in small increments is something that continues to help me.

I hope you can reach for distractions when it gets too much.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Hugs, if wanted. I know it will likely be impossible not to do, but try not to count down the days and sessions left. I tend to do things like that (not just with therapy--like the end of high school and college, too), and it doesn't help.

Since it's happening right after Christmas and avoiding Christmas is nearly impossible, it's like there's a built in reminder that it's coming whether I like it or not.

Back from step 1 in the medical weight loss program, labs/weight/bp/measurements. I'm actually excited to get started, I like the idea of having a team approach - doctor, nutritionist, and counselor all specialists in weight loss.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this, NP. I totally resonate with an internal timer. It just adds more stress, but it's also a protective thing. Just your minds way of preparing you. I'm sorry you're struggling.

Ugh, yeah, that makes it worse. I'm sorry. And there tend to be countdowns to Christmas out there, too, like TV ads saying "x number of days."

He's told me offers a hug on a last session. I want to hug him but I feel so ugly because of my weight issues. I will regret not hugging him but I will feel so ashamed if I do. It feels like a lose-lose situation. How can I get comfortable enough in my body in three months to give him a hug?

"I will regret not hugging him..... " Yes you will. This may be the only chance you get. Don't let your inner critic take it away from you.

I totally get being hung up on feeling ashamed due to one's looks, but your T doesn't care about what you look like on the outside, he sees and cares about the wonderful person underneath.

NP, he wouldn't have mentioned it to you if he didn't want to hug you. He's okay with it. You deserve a hug no matter your physical appearance!

I hate that last session hug! I dont understand it. Am i all of a sudden a different person? If hugging wasnt part of our relationship all along, how can you just tack it on at the end?

I think my problem is more the dearth of any warmth or bodily contact between parent and child when i was growing up. My dad ONCE told my mother to hold my hand for a photograph in the backyard in front of his blooming peony bushes, and the witch scratched me. No more hand holdy pics after that one.
