I just went for a night walk and saw my therapist with her child and a friend trick or treating around the village. We walked right past each other, I ignored her. She lives in the middle of nowhere and this is her nearest village, so it's understandable in one sense, but I really don't like it. I am back home now hoping that she won't knock on the door. I won't answer because get off my lawn and go and earn your chocolate you lazy little blighters, but it feels really uncomfortable. Weirdly, I feel like I have intruded upon her in some way. I don't know whether to email her just to acknowledge that I saw her and don't like it. We had a session earlier today.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, Comrade.

I've often felt that it would be really uncomfortable to bump into R.
I would hope that your therapist would have the presence of mind not to knock on your door, as that would be shaky in ethical terms, even if she isn't in therapist mode at that particular time.

Perhaps it could be session fodder for your next meeting, rather than an email?

If she lives in another area, she may not realize it is C's address until/ if the door is opened.

I don't expect T's to remember a client's address. I never told Rob mine even after 3.5 years of seeing him.

The intrusion does make sense.

I personally dislike Halloween and always have since I was a child. I've thought it was bigger for Americans than us. I'm also not a fan of Black Friday being pushed on us too.

She doesn't know this address so she wouldn't know if it was my door or not, she is just aware that I am in the village. I could wait, I am not distressed or anything so it's not important in that sense. I feel like I want to pass it back to her in some way. As much as I felt like I was intruding, it was also her coming up against my boundary and I want to push back. I am feeling very disconnected from her at the moment so maybe this is a way of me seeking to aggravate that.

It is an overlap between two worlds that normally stay separate.

Even if you're not distressed. If acknowledging it would ease the feeling, a brief email could help reset boundaries. If the feeling fades or doesn't disrupt things for you, it might also be fine to also let it go.

It’s likely that she will understand the inherent boundary discomfort here and could address it in your next session.

I think she will definitely understand the boundary discomfort. Yes, it's the overlap and also that it was not on my terms.

i've had three trick or treaters so far. h is out on a job, so i'm manning the door alone haha. i'm kinda not in the mood for kids tonight. but will put on a smile and hand out the candy so I don't eat any more of it than i already have. ugh.

tomorrow morning is my first dr appointment for the medical weight loss program; it's an hour-long appointment. that seems rather long, but we'll see how it goes. My first nutritionist appointment is scheduled for december, but i'm going to ask if they can make it sooner. that seems SO far away.

ok well that just made my whole week! the most adorable little Spider Man was just at my door with his Dad, dad said it's his first time, he's trying! the little guy looked up at me with huge saucer eyes when I put the candy in his empty bucket, I must have been their first stop. He was absolutely adorable. Reminded me of my son's first trick or treat. Back then he loved thomas the tank engine so we got him a thomas costume. But he refused to put it on at first and kept saying "I don't want to be Thomas! I want to be (son's name)!!" He thought the costume would turn him into thomas. we finally convinced him it wouldn't and he put it on and thus began his trick or treating career haha.

I love passing out Halloween candy and admiring costumes and saying Happy Halloween! No one is out tonight. I've only had on knock at the door, a witch and a banana. So cute!

Late to this conversation but I think Trick Or Treating is starting to fizzle out. I feel like between all the Trunk and Treats and Fall Festivals they have leading up to Halloween has taken over. I had probably 10 or 12 Trick or Treaters tonight. One child took most of the candy out of the bowl early in the night when I left it out and stepped inside so even though I didn’t have many Trick or Treaters I don’t have any candy left.

Couch Workout Club day 89-90

Yesterday I did the grief yoga that the person from the helpline recommended.

Today I got 10 minutes into a 15 minute YWA video.

Maybe next year you could leave the candy outside in a bowl for the kids to help themselves if you didn't have the energy.

The longer length of the appointment might just be to give you time to ask questions.

It's a good idea to move the nutritionist visit up, too. That initial support can be key when starting a new program.

I got to do something cute this Halloween. My mom's work had a pumpkin decorating contest, so she enlisted me to help. We made an old lady pumpkin. It was fun. Sadly, the pumpkin collapsed under all the weight of the lollipops, but she did win 2nd place and a Starbucks! Poor pumpkin got a headache!

We didn't put candy out or answer the door (figured it would stress out our daughter), and we don't get many trick-or-treaters on my block anyway.

A few people posted in a neighborhood group that teens drove by and stole the entire bowl of candy off their porch, like took the bowl, too! (One had it on video from their Ring doorbell.) So, just a warning for those thinking of just putting a bowl on the porch in the future.

On the other topic, I agree that longer doctor's appointments can be good. They might also have a standard list of questions they go through that could take some time. They likely need to have a good sense of your day-to-day life to put together a plan (like work schedule, whether you generally cook vs. get carryout or eat out, any dietary restrictions, physical limitations like an injury, etc.). Plus, like Lemon said, time for you to ask questions.

Hope it's helpful, Artie!

Oh, that's cute and creative! Kind of funny about it collapsing. Glad she still got second place.
