He's a really great doc! He works internal medicine but plays the part of a T now and then. Actually, it's pretty much every time I go in. He has me automatically booked for half-hour appointments instead of the 15 minutes that patients usually get. He's got better at playing the role of a T. I clue him sometimes on what to do and how I work via my obnoxious emails to him. He's really sweet for what he puts up with for me. It's unbelievable! I saw him yesterday. He knows a couple of my hardest topics and jumped right in to them. I have bad dreams (not nightmares) about them often. Too many emotions and reactions. I was a no-show for my last appointment because of a dream that I had about my kids. I finally made it in. I know it was good for me even though the discussion of such things is emotionally triggering. I wish that didn't have to happen but I know it's the only way for any healing. He's been tolerant and so understanding of me, I wish that I could repay him. I know that I will someday when things are working better with me. The emails to him will cut down. (I would bet that he'll probably almost miss them when that time comes, LOL!) He's not great at the psych stuff. I try to email him "tips" once in a while. But he's the best I've got right now. I'm very lucky to have him! My primary care doc plays 'T'

((inkblot))

I am glad that you have found someone to listen.

I love my primary care physician as well. This is the person I go to when my body hurts and needs attention. She takes good care of me.

I also love my T. He is who I go to for psychological care.

I think it's a good thing that that the two are separate because there would be too great an opportunity for me to be confused about the meaning behind touch if my T were my physician as well.

Please be careful to take care of yourself that boundaries are not crossed. Maybe your physician can recommend someone?

Take care.

(((inky)))) this is so good to hear! With all you've had in your life, it's good that you finally have some good for you too. Hey, even the best Ts will accept "tips" on things the patient finds pertinent, as it helps focus on what your own sense of needs are. My primary care doc plays 'T'

that's great inky - my MD is the same way. Fortunately, my MD does not ever touch me (ok i think she listened to my lungs once and once looked at my feet when they were swollen) but figures out what's up with me by talking with me and really listening. She cracks me up - she says first we gotta get you healthy, then we gotta work on your social life! (just like that, too - no formal talk for her).
she's awesome.

That is great inky. I also have an awesome internist...he doesn't like to be called Dr.B he wants to be called by his first name Jim. It took me a long time to be able to do that.

I am friends with him and his wife and I know if I need to talk to someone and I can't get ahold of someone on my therapy team I can call him and he will help.

Jim saved my life when I tried to kill myself because my mom was ready to pull the plug and he wouldn't let her.

Wow! Thank you everyone! It's really great to read all of your posts--I am lucky to have my doc--and all of you too. My primary care doc plays 'T' I looked online and see that he still hasn't closed the file from my last appointment, so I think that I really gave him something to think about!! I think I know what that would be too--email messages I sent him immediately after the appointment. I told him something specific about life with my ex-husband. My primary care doc plays 'T' I'd never told anyone a couple of those things before. I don't know if I can actually *say* the words again since my first bad reaction in 2002. I hadn't emailed them before either. I wish I knew what he was thinking. I can probably imagine though.

Any advice for an old lady who has never been 'here and present' when she see a physician? I dont think I have ever been the one to be there at a doctor's appointment and now that I am older I really fear seeing a doctor should I become ill.
