I've been having a hard time the last couple of weeks and my wonderful T has taken many calls from me (messages) and has twice called me even though I didn't ask her to, which is our arrangement... that she will call back IF I ask. The other arrangment (hers! lol) is that phone calls where we talk to one another (not the messages) will be brief.
I so appreciate her calls and it occurred to me tonight after talking with her for the few minutes, is that not only is it grounding to talk to her, reassuring, comforting, calming, but as a hearing impaired person I get to hear her voice much more distinctly since my phone has good volume control.... So I get to hear her 'up close' and I can hear more distinctly the reassuring and intimiate qualities to her voice I don't normally get to hear. Just something I realized and appreciate. I wish I could hear them as well in person. |

i dont always hear so good but i know that t has a different quality to his phone voice... it touches me.
i am so pleased you get this with your t.. but i encourage you to talk about it with her and perhaps you can arrange for her to leave messages for you that you can access when you need that extra help |

I'm so glad to hear that you can communicate with your T on the phone. Those short few minutes mean so much... I know that when I talked with my (old) T on the phone it just meant the world. Almost as though everything outside of you is just melting and you're hanging on to the sound of her voice. Very comforting. __________________ The unexamined life is not worth living. -Socrates |

ECHOES, the phone calls sound so warm and reassuring. I am happy you have them.
Is there anything you can do in session, like moving closer to your T, to make her voice easier for you to hear? For example, maybe you could sit in her lap. __________________ "Therapists are experts at developing therapeutic relationships." |

sunny i'm going to take a copy of your wonderful suggestion with me next week. I'll let you know what T thinks. hehe
Well, I put a new battery in my hearing aid right before session and sometimes turn it up too (but that distorts other sounds, including my own voice). Sometimes once I hear something the memory can recreate it. When I meet someone new, for example, I have to learn their voice; in the beginning it's hard for me to be able to hear them well but when I am accustomed to their voice I don't have so much trouble. Now that I've noticed this quality to T's voice I am going to see if I can hear or 'feel' that more when we are face to face. |

Is one of your ears better than the other? I'm deaf in my right ear so naturally turn my head so my left ear is toward the sound and my husband changes barstools if he accidentally sits on the "wrong" side. Maybe you can sit sideways to your T; make the two of you into a real "T" shape, LOL.
Maybe you can get an assisted listening device; an FM system or something like two phones that go just between the two of you? http://www.williamssound.com/product...?product_id=82 __________________ "Never give a sword to a man who can't dance." ~Confucius |
