Psychiatric Outpatient Program (POP)
This program offers a psychodynamic 12-week day therapy program, focusing on insights gained through structured group therapy. Space is available for 24 patients, with 12 new patients joining the program every six weeks. Patients may be referred to the program by a psychiatrist, family doctor or mental health professional.

The interdisciplinary team is composed of mental health practitioners including nurses, psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists a spiritual care chaplain. The group psychotherapy sessions focus on gaining insight into unhealthy relational styles through a specific focus on communication skills, assertiveness, emotional awareness, coping skills, core beliefs, anger management and relationships.

Patients who would benefit from more group therapy after they have completed the six-week program are welcome to attend the Insight Follow-up

i really need the help right now and the only alternative is inpatient.

i don't really believe it will help. i know that that isn't the best attitude to go in with, but i'm severely depressed and that's what's going through my head right now. i intend to do (do or do not, there is no try) everything they recommend. it's not very rational to give up without doing so.

i think the hardest thing will be to be honest and admit to what i feel and i think.

Well, I got into the program. I'm not sure if that means I'm * really sick * Psychiatric Outpatient Program (POP) or that they think I'm well enough to benefit from it.

They don't have anything in my area like this Psychiatric Outpatient Program (POP) I wish they did. Although I do hate group therapy, but if I never do it how am I suppose to get better? Ugh.

I hope I can open up in therapy. These days I also tend to "clinical-ize" (my own word) all my symptoms and avoid feeling. Probably a downside to being a psychology student.

I wish you had a chance to do it in your area. I think a lot of the major hospitals in my area have some form of day/evening program. I guess I'm lucky that way. I think I'm a step away from inpatient, so than goodness.

Well that's cool that you have something like that... your a psych student as well? Me too. I actually want to be a therapist someday just because of all my experiences with therapy... good and bad.

I'm not willing to become a therapist until I have dealt with my own problems, but I would like to do it. Part of what I want to accomplish is to learn what holds me back from achieving my goals, both personal and professional. I don't feel capable of being a therapist right now and I think the worry of hurting my patients more than helping, in the case of a major depressive episode or work. One of the professionals I have worked with says that another therapist could take over my caseload if necessary, but I wouldn't want to let anyone down. Which, according to just my intake interview, is a major theme in my life.
