hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone has had ECT? I am wondering because I can't seem to get out of my severe depression. I have PTSD but am not able to move forward...just back. I seem to not be getting anywhere. I am wanting to hurt myself and am sad and angry so much. There is not fun or happiness in my life. Wondering if anyone has had ECT and if it helped or didn't?

Have you ever tried EMDR for the PTSD? That could help with the depression.

Has a psychiatrist suggested ECT?

What is EMDR? No I haven't had a psychiatrist suggest it. I just don't know what to do anymore. Like my last straw at getting help. But then again, I think people know it's hopeless and aren't telling me.

Hi Jen

recovering from ptsd is not hopeless. there are lots of different things you can try....like EMDR, CBT etc.

i have personally never had ECT but....that was the number one rule of thought when i was growing up in the Highlands and...i seen a lot of damamged peeps from it and...guess what? ...first time it was suggested to me?...well, let's just say i live SOUTH of the border now lol.

hope you find lots of alternative info here ok?

Good Luck and Welcome to pc. Wondering?

I had ect for severe depression and EMDR for PTSD. The ect's help pull me out of the fog. I didnt' care for the EMDR approach though.

Hi
I have had ect in the past for the severe depression andptsd. It worked well for me in lifting the depression removing some of the blackness but it did nothing for any of the other symtoms and left me with big gaps in my memory. So itwas a bit of a mixed bag really. Sorry couldn't be of more help
