Some of you may recall that I used to see T at a psychoanalytic center here in the city. It was very close to my house. If I didn't have to drive that day, I could take the bus or subway and it would only take 5 or 10 minutes.
Then one awful day in November 2007 he dropped the bomb that he would be leaving the office in Dec., and going full-time at the other agency he works for (I can't believe I have been seeing him at this office for almost one year). As far as the therapeutic relationship, the move has only changed it for the better. He told me that the reason he left the psychoanalytic center was because they were very strict in making sure the therapists kept with certain psychoanalytic principles, and there was not much room for flexibility. The agency that he works for now has many locations in and around Philadelphia. Unfortunately, the one that T works at is almost in Delaware-- It is a 45+ min. drive for me, and absolutely not in the vicinity of anything-- not home, not my school, not my job. The distance has taken a toll on me-- when I go there on Wednesday mornings, there is often traffic due to construction. Then I have to drive all the way to school after session, which is no where near his office. Obviously, the distance also takes a toll on my bank account because of the price of gas. It has also completely eliminated the chance for me to see him twice per week because he is far away. Last session he told me that he will be working one day per week at one of the offices in the city. The city. As in... Philadelphia. Here. MY CITY. HE WILL BE BACK IN THE CITY AGAIN!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He also told me that it is quite likely that he will adding a second day, as well. Soooo, this means that as soon as my semester ends (first week of December) I will be able to see him at a location that is only 10 to 15 minutes away from my house. When the new semester starts, I can still continue to see him on this day. I also mentioned to my supervisior that once the new semester starts, I will probably need to stop working my half-day on Tuesdays-- it's just too much. So, all of this opens up the possibility of seeing T 2x per week if I need to... probably not every week, but just having the option there would be nice. Finally, some good news! |
