I saw my pdoc today. We were talking about me trying to get a referal to a mindfullness based meditation group specifically for mood disorders. The hospital she's working in is starting a clinical trials soon, so they're looking for subjects, but she said I'd never be accepted because my Dx is too complex. Yay me - I'm an overacheiver at being messed up.

I actually have to laugh, all of her patients have a reputation in the hospital, about being more complicated than normal - which is actually saying a lot given that she works in Canada's largest psych hospital. When I was IP a couple of summers ago, I was used as a test subject for a residents exam. She says her patients get used for final exams all the time because they all have multiple Dx's.

Oh well - I look at it if you're going to be messed up, you might as well be really messed up

i had to laugh reading your post...i used to be the "show and tell" patient for my dr due to my asthma...it was so severe and so unlike any other asthma anyone had ever seen that medical students would flock to her to see me. it started out with 1 student and i guess she went back and told her instructor who then told someone else and it rolled downhill and took on a life of its own...for about 8 years it seemed that every medical student in creation would visit me at my dr's office!

i didn't mind since i was "complex" and also had other issues too (like the DID, depression ptsd, etc) so they got their medical school tutition's worth with me. but it did get to be kind of funny tho...especially since at that point my asthma was so not controlled and i would roll into my doc's office a nifty shade of blue and barely breathing half the time

Mmm... it is true that for mindfulness based meditation you need to be able to 'sit' with it, and it takes practice. But I have to disagree with your pdoc saying the word 'never' be accepted to do it. Maybe at this point and time it would be difficult for you, but something you could work towards, starting off with short relaxation moving onto deep relaxation and then onto mindfulness.

EEEUWWWWWWWWW
I hate residents AND "fellows".
Blaghhhhhh
I would never be their guinea pig. Of course I'm not a huge fan of Pdocs either, but they certainly are better than residents@!
I wouldn't subject myself to a clinical trial of anything either, as I refuse to be a test subject or a research paper participant.

I don't think your SUPER MESSED UP because you were told they wouldn't accept you for the clinical trial. You just met the exclusion criteria, which might have been very narrow FYI.

I'm of the opinion that most people aren't complex per se, it's just that other people aren't really great listeners.
