As sun mentioned anti anxiety meds such as benzo's can be very addicting, and that can happen rather quickly, perhaps your doctor is concerned with that. I am not sure of the background info so its hard to really say. But I know its really difficult when you are trying to get through something and feel like your doctor doesn't want to help. Perhaps she is trying to in a way that is not comfortable for you, I would really recommend getting into more depth with her as to why she doesn't want you on them. Hangingon

This kind of thing really, really pisses me of-doctor's not helping. It is not their place to prejudge you and assume you will become addicted. Panic attacks and anxiety are a ***** to deal with. You are left non-functioning. That is why those meds (benzos)were made. And if taken in the prescribed amounts for the prescribed periods, and then weaning slowly, you have nothing to worry about. Better to medicate yourself with benzos than drink, smoke pot, or find some other drug to medicate yourself, which is very easy to do. In fact, I can get a stronger dose of xanax at the local gas station in town if I wanted for the right price. Something is wrong when you can get the medications you need from a drug dealer rather than your pdoc or general doctor where you can be safely monitored. I would switch pdocs. You are paying him/her and you have the right to safe, competent, adequate care.

actually - a px's history of addictions *is* something to consider very seriously before prescribing benzos and other addictive meds. so if a client has had troubles with addictions in the past, it's probably best not to prescribe them something that might also get them hooked.
of course - i know nothing about you, camel, and i'm upset/confused on your behalf as to why your pdoc refused to give a proper explanation as to her refusal ![]() |
