It is nothing to be afraid of. Trust me, I just recently came home from residental.
But the "residental" part of it means that you would stay some where so you can get the help you need. ![]() |

Well, first I have to say please find another T who will work with you and/or give you a second opinion on this.
Here is a link to what I found on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residential_treatment This is one options mentioned to you by one person. There are other options. One is day treatment also known as partial hospitalization, where you go for most of the day and attend groups and classes, for example to learn DBT skills. Your treatment is up to you. Professionals can make recommendations but the decision is yours. Here's a site that helped me when I was exploring and researching what I wanted for myself: www.guidetopsychology.com. I like their Question & Answer section. ![]() |

Partial hospitalization was 6 hours a day, 5 days a week of as, said elsewhere, some DBT and other education type stuff, and then process groups. You had to go--and could only go--for three weeks. Heavy involvement in seeing that you get the therapy you need re: T's and pdocs. Day treatment is 3 hours a day, five days a week right now (for me). People can go fewer days a week if they're doing better. I was pretty bad off so I'm going 5 right now. Less intense and a bit more focus on process group. Partial was the best thing I've done in years; day treatment is great, too, though I improved greatly in partial so I have less pressing need.
