The wives told me to get a king-sized bed. I heard several stories like this. A combat vet might feel your presence while in a nightmare or light sleep and, thinking you are a threat, may punch or strangle you. I didn’t take it too seriously. I’ve heard that story from several women who weren’t married to a vet! My husband told me about being in Vietnam and having to be very still while rats ran over his legs. That was after I noticed he didn’t much like mice or being touched in bed. To this day I (mostly) keep to my side and don’t tease him about mice. This is success because it’s one of the ways to accommodate. Instead of us saying “It shouldn’t be this way” we said “It is this way” and that added to a creating a peaceful environment.

Thanks for this!
