This girl that I've liked for awhile is single. She knows how I feel about her and I know she has some feelings for me. I also know that it is hard for her since she and her boyfriend just broke up. She tells me that she needs time to get over her ex and can't have a relationship just yet. She wants to be close friends in the meantime and possibly get with me when she's over her ex.

How should I take this? How much space should I give her? How do I be her friend even though I really like her?

Your friend has told you she needs some time to grieve. Strictly honor her request. Let her be in charge. She will let you know when and if she is ready for something more.

Telling you she needs some space is not a put-down. A lot of things could happen. She and her ex may even get back together. She may decide she would rather not date or be in a relationship.

In any event she is hurting. If you want to help her, act like a friend.
Thanks for this!
