Several months ago my SIL moved in with her life partner and the two kids they have been raising. My SIL decided to look for another partner and is now all but living with them rather than my house. Her former partner is still holding out in the back bedroom with her daughter. They come out only to use the bathroom or go outside, and lately to make a mess in the kitchen while "cooking". They have no income, and no plan for getting one, or moving out as far as we know.
My husband and I want them gone but as long as the rent is continued to be paid by my sister-in-law they won't leave. We talked about cutting off the cable to their room and changing our wi-fi password so they have no internet access back in their little world. I feel a little guilty about it, but they are making me not want to go into my own house. We have already told them that we will likely be moving this summer so they need to find another place before that, but they aren't doing anything we know of until they have to. I feel like I'm walking on eggshells in my own house. Lately their TV has gotten louder, but they still refuse to say anything to us. |

Who did you rent to? Were you aware that these two would be living with the SIL? Who is paying for the food they are eating? Were there any discussions about cleaning up after themselves?
Is there a written lease? Is the lease for a term, like six months, or a month to month lease? If it is a month to month lease, give them written notice that you are terminating the lease at the end of the month. The notice has to be to the leaseholder. Since your SIL is paying the rent, I assume the lease is with her. See here: http://www.formsguru.com/forms/legal.../notdelpo.html Send the notice by certified male return receipt requested. Send the notice to the two in the house also. Get the notices out so the people have to be out by the end of April. |

Can you tell your SIL to tell them to move or can you tell them yourself. Do you still want your SIL to live with you even if her partner leaves?
