I know my part in the "issue" - I didnt jump up and down and turn cartwheels when my assistant made me an appt in a previously empty afternoon after a morning of very boring paperwork - I was less than enthusiastic - I hadn't had lunch was very much looking forward to leaving for a few hours and she pages me to tell me she made the appt - I sighed, and said OK - thats it just OK, and she comes stalking into my office and infront of the other workers says - what should I have done? (hands on hips - very combative)
I dont know how things went from 0-100 on the unglued scale - so I told her again that I had said it was ok - to which she started in again - I said look - I need to get lunch - the appt is fine where it is, finished my paperwork and left. Came back and things are calm - tense but calm - I don't understand how I manage to get these sorts of reactions from people - I wasnt sarcastic, nasty, mean, terse - just said ok. Next time it will be thank you - only - that is the extent of conversations here from now forward - |

Some people cannot get by without a tickertape parade for getting you a fresh pencil
An assistant should know the role and the place of an assistant They are not a wife or mother though many assistants or secretaries take on role of mother wife protector and archenemy Rather than encouraging further tension with "Thank you" only maybe a private discussion about conversations in front of colleagues and other co-workers is in order and include in that discussion that ones attitude as an assistant is not intended to be that of a manager or superior By all means help them to feel like a valuable part of the team and appreciate their contribution and if need be explain that you had certain things on your mind which were more important to you than the appointment though you do not need to elaborate Wishing you well with this situation __________________  Peace, the deep imperturbable peace is right there within you, quieten the mind and slow the heart and breathe...breathe in the perfume of the peace rose and allow it to spread throughout your mind body and senses...it can only benefit you and those you care about...I care about you |
