simply put, it's good to have an open mind in relationships and what we and the other perceives. great article.
i was ranting to my son when i was overstressed with caretaking his schiz. father-my ex. instead of not acknowledging my feelings/frustrations, etc. he listened compassionatly with me. (i was talking loud tho it wasn't necessary) it enabled me to calm down even tho i still had my ex to contend with. it sure helped that my son was doing what this article suggested/stated is helpful in relationships-son/me.
when i expressed how appreciative i was of his handling/listening to me he shared this with me-1. some of his ability was from how my son and i communicated when he was little, including mutual respect and 2. his military career/training reinforced this very tool.
i have not completely mastered this skill with others tho so it's beneficial for me to internalize the suggestions in the link.
