Jamielow,

In my experience, as a divorced mother of two children, is try to cooperate with your ex as much as possible. Bite down on your tongue before negativity comes out, because it can be used to make your experience even more complicated and ugly.

While parting with the spouse may feel like the "right thing" to do, try very hard to remain on friendly terms with one another. It makes things a lot easier for the children (which is our number #1 reason) to try to be friends! Thankfully, my ex and I share this priority.

Perhaps you may want to approach your ex on that level. You may say something like: "Our marriage is over. However, we do have children together. Our children need both of us to be active in their lives, to make their adjustments in life much easier." From there, work towards developing frequent and regular visits for both parents.

It isn't super-easy ~ but it can be done. Especially if mom and dad are both committed to being good parents. Then both parents need to work towards building consistency between homes. That piece adds a lot of reassurance and comfort to the children's lives.

Best wishes and hugs to you.
