I rode up in the elevator with 2 men - one on each side of me. I thought I was going to die

I NEVER really felt shy around men (scared, hypervigilant yes, yes! but shy...no) - not until all of this business I am dealing with.

Thankfully, I had my heels on, so we were all around the same height (6'1 - ish). But I couldn't look up, I was blushing (they were chatting politely), part of me was a little happy that I was stuck in an elevator with 2 interesting men, but the stronger part of me just wanted to run out of there. Ugh. (and nowhere to run)

I find that is happening a lot lately.
The more I am out, the more I am bound to run into people and the more likely I am to be with (what I consider) interesting men ...

at some point I am going to HAVE to start dating. Again.

I don't want to be that girl (the lady with too many cats). But I also have to sort of step on it because I'm not getting any younger. I know it will happen when I am ready, but the whole thing seems so strange to me. I KNOW this is going to get easier. It's has to!

Oh god! I'm going to be one of those ladies! Hi!! I'm the old lady a hundred cats.

(((Rose)))),

You are not going to be the old lady with too many cats. When you are ready you will raise your head and smile at some interesting man. Hey you are thinking about it right? Well, that is a start in the right direction.

I want a kitty!!!!!!!!

do it in small steps; for instance just make small talk while in the elevator, at the desk, flirt, just don't commit to any dates yet. Just get used to the whole communicating thing

Rose, I suggest (with absolutely no expectations other than practicing for when you are really ready) the next time you're in the elevator situation, give the man an innocuous compliment ("I think that tie suits you") along with a related question ("How did you find it?"). Almost always they'll start talking and if they are interested in you in any way (and not just romantically) they'll engage in a nice elevator conversation with you.

Even though I have a girlfriend now, I still practice giving sincere compliments on the elevator, just to keep up my "small talk" muscles. Plus, if you get them talking, the pressure is off you somewhat.
