My husband and I have a pact: We remain united in front of our children (no matter what) and disagree behind closed doors. This way, they can't play us against each other. We learned how to do this the hard way.

We also told our teenagers: "If you embarrass us (in front of your friends, our friends, public, etc.) we will immediately return the favor." I've never had a problem correcting behavior in front of people and it only takes once or twice for them to get it.
