How old are you?
Usually when you are older the number of friends don't really matter, it's better to not have so many facebook friends. I have 9 friends on facebook, but they are all good friends of mine. No family except for my brother. I don't like having a lot of people on my facebook because I don't want a whole lot of people knowing what I am doing or thinking, since I end up deleting a lot of my posts anyway. |

Won't use it at all...I already have snail mail, E-mail, IMs and something called a "telephone" to talk to people, I run a private (as in on my own machine) News server for close friends and family only.
I really don't need games, and if I do want to play one, I got plenty offline ones, and there are lots of other spots to go online to play free... So, I say the whole thing is a waste anyway. |

To be perfectly honest, I just want to stop repeating some of the mistakes in my past. Like adding and readding my friends on facebook simply because of my obsession with keeping my friends forever when i should expect the inevitable, which is the separation of close friends and the creation of new ones later in life. You grow apart, but I feel like I'm resisting that.

It's not going to matter in a few years because eventually Facebook will be a thing of the past like Myspace.
Work on building your relationships in person and not worry about what's going on online. |

I have a few good friends in person. I'm scared that once we go our separate ways in college, then we'll make new friends and we don't get to see our old ones. My teachers have friends from high school and I'm wondering if I can do that. However, I can't be like everyone else. I mean, some don't even talk to their high school friends. They say they grow apart and only see them on occasion.

It makes ME sad that people measure their worth on how many "friends" or "followers" they have on a website. I know I should be trying to help here but sometimes I can't help feeling so annoyed at this kind of thread. The one I'd rather tell the OP to "go away". I'm glad I don't rely on social media. I know how easy it is to break the law and/or get a criminal charge just by using something as harmless as a website. Didn't anyone read the news last year that someone got arrested for using Twitter to harrass a famous diver just because he missed out on an Olympic medal.

![]() ![]() I wonder if there are interest groups at school or community meetups that you could join, to cultivate friendships with people who share your interests? |

I so agree w/ you. I gave up on facebook a couple of years ago. It caused me nothing but pain, so I said bye bye.

No and never have. I don't understand it. Facebook seems like a popularity contest. Some people claim the site is great for maintaining long distant relationships (of people they actually know).
Why would I call someone I haven't met and got to know a friend? P.S. Life gets better once high school is done with. |

I never used it but a few people who have said all Facebook does is cause arguments.
I know a few people who've even deleted their accounts for that reason. |

I don't even have an account (and have never signed up.) Don't do twitter, linked in or anything.
So everyone can feel good, now, about their extensive social networks! ![]() |

I don't use facebook...if I want to keep up with a friend I call them and make plans to see them or at the very least send them an email to make plans soon.
You will make different friends at different stages of your life. There will always be a few that will be there for many, many years/life stages and others will move in and out. It's just how life is for everyone; it says nothing about you. I think Facebook is not a true measure of friendship...it's not like you have a real connection with these "friends"...they are just some number on a web site a guy is making a ****load of money off of, partly based on our insecurities. |

With all the controversy Facebook has been creating with privacy rights, I am sure that some knew way of communicating/social networking will come along and take over Facebook.
Like google glasses, I doubt that it will catch on, but who knows, it may be bigger than Facebook. |

I didn't have many friends on FB. I was rarely on because I hated seeing others being social and knowing what others did for fun over the weekend. It made me depressed and that's one reason why i deleted my FB.
