My sister told my mom that I am taking an anti-depressant. I got off the phone with my mom a few minutes ago. She never mentioned it. I kept thinking about it and never said anything. I don't want to end up with a "pink elephant" in between our conversations. I had this same problem with my T. She kept mentioning the option and I would just kind of listen grudgingly to her. I finally decided to try it and now my mom knows. I don't want my mom to think I'm mentally ill, nuts or crazy. I will have to talk to her about this sooner or later. But, I just seem to not get the words out. I HATE MY STUPID, CRAPPY LIFE! My T thinks I should talk to her and try to point out how it helps me. I think if I mention how it helps me, the low level of side effects and the temporary use of it, I think she wouldn't mind too much. But, I have a bad feeling that it will take forever for me to talk to her about it.

What do you think? If you had a cast on your arm would you tell her? Or chicken pox? They are illnesses. Well this is inside where no one can see. Its still a valid illness. You need to get well and she can either help or hinder. Her choice. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

I agree with Froggie! I have taken antidepressants for several years now, and am a walking testimony to the benefits....wish they had been available when I was a young person!
Like you, I have trouble talking to my mother about such things, but I did tell her, really not caring what her reaction would be, knowing that the medication is beneficial. She, and my father (now deceased) would have both benefitted from the same meds, but she will never do such, not understanding the workings of the meds. If you are having anxiety about telling your mother about your medication, just wait until you feel comfortable mentioning it to her, or NOT! It's your life, your health, and you are doing the right thing for YOU! Love, Patty |
