I like observing people and it gives me enormous courage to judge people, try to get their point of view and their justifications for their own actions.
Jason, the geek, or still I don’t know how to describe him. Coming from a broken family, with an alcoholic father, disabled brother and meek mother, Jason never got anything he wanted. Every day he was abused for being meek, cowardly and a good-for- nothing. He didn’t have any friends as well as a love affair. He started reading and writing at a young age, and soon he found solace in the library. He wrote sad, gloomy stories and poems but nobody knew this boy was that much sad. He won numerous prizes and people knew he was different. He came to college for his graduation and had to stay with a muscular guy named as Reynolds. Reynolds was a muscular guy, who loved van diesel movies, and a fitness freak. He liked to drink, working out and watch action movies, Very funny and was also overly sensitive. He took much proud in being from a ‘working class’ background and believes that he can be a self- made man. Though he knew he didn’t have the intelligence of a Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, he wanted to assert to his power, not in a harmful way. Jason, the geek stayed with him during their college. Jason was an introvert, fond of reading great philosophers, Early American novelists and Existentialism. Reynolds couldn't understand all of this and he thought there was a psycho in his room. His fellow companions in that hostel, guys who all are sort of control freaks gathered together and finalized a plan. They thought Jason didn’t know basic etiquettes and it was their commitment to civilize him. They started teasing Jason and one day Jason hit Reynolds. Reynolds didn’t say anything believing an uncivilized man must not be punished in a harsh way. Even though it was a mistake from Jason that he didn’t intentionally hit Reynolds. After that Reynolds changed his attitude towards Jason, kind of avoiding him. In a drunken party, Jason went wild and got embarrassed by his own classmates. Then Reynolds, as a ‘tragic hero’ went on to rescue the geek. This enhanced his personality in the group as a magnanimous guy and Jason’s value fell drastically. Suddenly he became an ‘immature, idiotic’ personality, who needed rebuke from everybody. Reynolds never liked the man, always belittling and abusing him, for even the slightest fault he had made. I would like to know if the geek was all wrong or coul he have justified on his circumstances? |
