30 something years afterwards, this fella I dated in college has written to me, seeking out my address thru my college alumni. He lives in CA, right ont he beach in an apt in Venice. I've rec'd two letters, and the last one included many photographs of his surroundings and one of him as well. Though he stated he had had a triple bypass in '97, he still looks young and fit. I'm thrilled to hear from him! He has also told me he is a bit of a "recluse," much like me at this stage, but he his last letter was 5 pages! I'm kind of excited to be corresponding thru "snail mail" with someone I actually know! He's an engineer with the CA Dept of Highways, and works mostly in the desert, and doesn't have email...thius the letters. I have to admit I was thrilled to see his letter in my mailbox today! And, me a reclusive hermit, hiding from the world!
What do y'all think about this development? Maybe there is still hope for me, or am I putting too much emphasis on this new contact?
Patty

Patty,

Sounds totally exciting and promising.

Engineers are usually very dependable, and a recluse besides!!!!

As much as e-mail is great, there is nothing like an old-fashioned snail-mail correspondence to light a fire in your heart.

Hugs,

EJ

Yes, but after three letters in which he didn't acknowledge anything I had said, nothing about what I had recounted of my 30 or so years of life, family, work, my art....just shallow replies about HIMSELF, very self-absorbed! And these were long letters from him! This turns out to be a validation and confirmation for my why I dismissed him in my youth...such a shallow fella!
Yeah, such a thing could be exciting and romanting in later life, couldn't it! Not so here.
Love,
Patty

Have you guys mentioned about the intentions of keeping in touch? It sounds as though you're hoping that it could grow into a romantic relationship and is that the same thing that he's hoping for also?

Snail mail could get old after some time. Have you guys exchanged phone numbers or for him to get an email?

HI, Jennifer...I have no idea his intentions, but I am assessing it from the quality (or lack of) in his letters to me. My red flag radar is way up regarding all men, and this one sounds like a self-absorbed Narcissist!

THanks for the update. Well, that certainly sucks but atleast you see it for what it really is. You will know the real thing when it comes. All the best to you.
