I am trying to switch banks to get my money from my other account to society assets. My dad is breaking the law withholding my checks in Colorado cause he only trust his bank. Society Assets will help me budget it. My dad is lying to me and doing things behind my back without having to ask me first. He's opening my ssdi mail. Me and my fiancee want to live together but my dad keeps bringing up low income apartment it is a one bedroom and we can't have it til we are married

Maybe you would qualify for some free advice from a local legal aide society. Sounds like you would meet the income qualification. If your father has some sort of trustee control over your income, then that does give him quite a bit of power. How will marriage affect that? Do you expect to make your spouse the person who helps you with your finances? You might need the help of a court to resolve this.

What do you mean about the marriage question?

It doesn't sound like you have direct access to your SSDI. Some people don't. and there is a payee who gets their money and supervises their access to it. I don't know if that is your situation. But it sounds like your father has some control like that. That could be because you are a minor or for other reasons.

If you have problems handling your own money, then a family member might be court-appointed to help you. It could be your father. If you get married, it could be your spouse. Courts try to act in your interest.
