I was feeling nervous to show my mom the tail I wanted to buy. It was a little over $100, but maybe she would consider...
... she called me a sick person and thought I was being a child. I know there are teens and women in pretty tails like Mermaid Kariel and Mermaid Melissa, and they are some of my role models. My mom just told me what kind of crazy person would go out there in a fish tail?? She said only little kids pretend to live their imaginary worlds, but then again... she would never understand. I do understand our culture and all, but I thought my family would be a bit different... I'm not mad at her, even though I'm disappointed. This was the tail I was planning to buy, and my size came out recently! Without the tankini~ ![]() She could've said that we couldn't spend more money, but she had to go ahead and call me a mentally-twisted child. I even told her my size, and she responded that they were probably fat or tall children. This was just a small rant. Well, there's a mermaid book that I can look forward to ordering, but I really wanted a tail instead of making one which would be easier... How do you deal with parental rejection like this when you've always wanted to accomplish a dream? Sometimes my parents are right when my dreams are foolish and a waste of time, I hate to admit that. This is not the first time that's happened to me. Last edited by Anonymous52098; Jun 22, 2014 at 11:16 PM. |

Hello, Lucky_Wishbone. When you are earning your own money, you may be able to accomplish your dream.

I agree with Glok. It's tough to hear, but it's true. When I was a teen, I was obsessed with Michael Jackson. My parents made fun of me when I kept begging and begging and begging for his Thriller album. I did eventually get it, BUT it was the only Michael Jackson thing I got from them. Anything else Michael Jackson related, I either had to do without, or if it was cheap enough, I'd save my pocket money and buy it myself

I'm sorry your mom reacted in such a horrible way. You're not mentally twisted for having a dream, and while everyone will have a different opinion, for what it's worth, I do not think you're childish. In fact, I think that precisely what is wrong in this world is that at some ridiculous age like 10 or 11 we're forced to give up the wonderful world of imagination and creativity and all of a sudden learn to hate and analyze and ridicule every single part of ourselves and everyone else around us.
Hold onto your dreams. You may not be able to express them now, but you will someday. And it will be so much easier for you to do that if you have held onto them and carefully tended them then letting them get obliterated by miserable and insensitive people. ![]()
