my mom is in jail for six months for a money crime. I don't have any problem with her because she admitted to her crime and is serving her sentence

You know is it weird me and my younger brother who is 13 are acting casual about this right now. In the beginning when she was first arrested it was scary but now that she has been sentenced for six months, restitution has been payed and my mom isn't even going to lose her job or anything (though I hear
She is going to be watched and checked on for some time). Now we are calm and not scared at all and we even find it kind of thrilling and unique and kind of find it interesting we are now connected to law enforcement . And we think it is kind of funny of course and can't help but poke some fun at her about it ( about things like being bossed around, wearing a uniform, the food) and she doesn't mind and is very self deprecating about all this.

also, is this weird, I have talked to my on the phone while she is there and for some reason I feel more comfortable being open with her about anything now then when she was actually here. Any reason why I would feel that way now?

another weird feeling I have, I just realized now that if my dad was the one in jail I would feel a lot worse. I wonder why though. I like them both equally and neither committed a crime before , hell my dad is probably more strict. In fact like I said while I find some amusing thoughts about my mom being in jail, I could never think any such things about my dad in that situation. I wonder why

Hello, fmpro. I guess people have different views on things.

I wish you well.

It's better to feel that way about your mother being in jail than to be really upset about it, right? I don't think it is weird. You are making the best of a situation that isn't the greatest and accepting reality for what it is.

You seem to be coping well with a difficult situation, and that's a good thing.

However, you should not accept this as the new normal. Don't get comfortable with it. Your mother didn't go to a PTA meeting....she's in JAIL...and that's never a good thing.
Thanks for this!
