Hi, I had friends steal from me when they were at my house "helping" me when I had a nervous breakdown. The total of the missing items is about $200 and I can't prove, via pics or anything, that they were ever mine, though one was an avon item and I may be able to prove that one, and I have still one left to a set of matching antique serving items ( the last I saw of the items was when they were here). The problem is this happened in March. When I asked one of the do called friends about one of my missing items I was told 1) I was crazy and 2) my house was so messy no wonder I couldn't find it.
I know the one stole because she asked 3 times what 3 items were while she was "cleaning" while I was semiconscious from exhaustion, she had a bag, all 3 items (plus clothes) went missing. As she looked nervously from a window she claimed some van came by and stole the bag of "trash" she had set out, while making statements the while time that fed into my fears, like she claimed she got a phone call asking her what I was wearing. I now realize her for the predator she is. If I could get a restraining order against her, I would, because a set of my keys is missing as well. Just earlier this week this woman let slip that she has a friend with a van, so this sets in concrete--for me--her criminality. But should I let it go or should I contact the police? She's had the chance to return the items. I have dirt on her, too. She hit 2 houses while unlicsenced and I have pictures on my camera. She drove away. I didn't contact the police when it happened because I was sure she would. I did not know at the time she was uninsured, unlicensed, plus unregistered. Really, these were my then neighbors at the time, so it's my own fault for continuing a friendship with this jerk. But I'm getting madder and madder every day that goes by. The last time I spoke to her she asked what I was doing. I said "inventory". She hasn't even attempted to call since (I have her blocked). What would you do, in my shoes?

Hi, nummy. Since you can't actually prove who stole them or even if you had them it would be difficult for the police to do much with that information. Of course, knowing that she is unlicesnsed and unregistered you might could report her to the authorities. I think instead of getting a restraining order, I would just change the lock. Restraining orders aren't always the best way to handle people that might want to sneak back in.
I'm sorry you lost some items. I can understand the feeling of betrayal. The best thing is to get them out of your life as quick and easily as possible. ![]()

That's a tough one. It's a bit late to file a police report, but it may be worth while for your own piece of mind. There's the slim chance that the police may uncover the items while pursuing someone for another crime, right? I don't think you will have much luck getting the police to take your accusations seriously without any proof, but at least the items being missing will be on record.
I agree about changing the lock. I'm sorry this happened to you. |

Change your lock .. I doubt the police will or could do anything at this point.
Sorry this happened to you

It was so long ago and you have no real proof that I doubt the police would do anything but listen sympathetically (maybe). You've done the right thing in simply cutting off contact with her.
