It seems like whenever I mention any sort of plan to my mother, she tries to invite herself along. She asked if I could come over this weekend for my brother's birthday and I told her that my boyfriend and I might be heading out of town to a festival. She invited herself and my brother! She does this all the time! It drives me nuts!
I do not let her get away with this and do not allow her to tag along. I am just really tired of having to fend her off whenever I mention that I am going to do something. Plus, I had hoped to borrow a family member's cabin for my weekend trip and my mother's invite is going to complicate that request. |

My mother used to invite my dad and herself on our yearly time-share vacations. For a number of years, I was too wimpy to say "no." We were the ones who paid for the thing! And she even kept saying what a poor investment time shares are! Grrr.
Thing is, they had a lot more money than we did, and could have invited us on a vacation--but they never did. Finally my mother-in-law intervened, saying she and her husband were coming with us--and intentionally backed out at the very last second, so our family could go alone. |

Ha, the only thing worse than my mother inviting herself is my mother-in-law doing it
![]() I am just so tired of having to watch what I say to my mother all the time. God forbid I am doing something interesting -- she wants to come along. I try to remember this and just stay vague about my plans, but sometimes I slip up. |
