For all if the people here who have a mental illness and adult children. Do your children stay away not interact disown you as a relative. If so how do you cope?

Good question. My son has definitely not disowned me, but I think now he is maintaining a healthy distance (my counselor said we were co-dependent!). That's important since he has his own wife and home now.

I can tell you that I stayed away from my mother (who had an untreated mental illness) because it was just so horribly painful to be around her. She (apparently) could not see her own illness and (apparently) could not control her abusive behavior towards me, so in order to save myself I stayed away.

I am guessing there are all sorts of situations in families. Did you want to talk about your own situation? Many of us here will listen.
