I am having a bit of a hard time with my mental health counselor. I have only seen her twice but have had 5 appointments. Things keep happening causing her to cancel my appointments. I have had the appointments written by her on a card and when I got there she had me down for another time twice. Then last time she cancelled because of an emergency and had another counselor in her place. I didn't see the other counselor because I don't know her. Do you think I should continue to try to make appointments with her even though she can't get the times right? This has been distressing with me being treated for depression and can't seem to get to see her. But when I have seen her I find she talks an awful lot about her life and goes on and on and I don't get to talk much. I am thinking of asking for another counselor.

LucyD, nothing in your posts indicates to me that there is any redeeming value in meeting with this counselor.

Here are suggestions on how to find a therapist

Find a Therapist

Many people who are actively involved in Psych Central find it helps take them out of their own problems to develop empathy for others. And their problems though still there are more manageable.

Some people find the forums give them the compassion and empathy they seek. http://forums.psychcentral.com

Thank you Christina and Avlady. I go to a center where they assign you counselors. You don't get to pick who you want. I am afraid to call and ask for someone else right now. I have to psyche myself up and haven't done that yet.
