Long story short I have a gut feeling that my cousin's wife is neglecting their child. I haven't seen this kid since November but my grandmother sees him all the time and comments she makes about him sends warning bells off in my head. I have no idea what to do.

What would you tell CPS?

I'm not exactly sure. I just really for sure know about the past and most a 100% sure about the present. My grandmother's begging me not to.

In what way is the child being neglected? (or was neglected in the past?)

Put the interest of the child above all else.

They'll grill you, for specific information and ask if could be corroborated by doctors or schools.

Just know before you make the call that you will need more information in order for them to act. Also, one person's definition of neglect may not be neglect to CPS. My son's father was hitting my son to the point of bruises, making him stand in a corner for 5-6 hours at a time, etc. CPS investigated him twice and dismissed the case both times.
They basically told me as long as the child has food, clothing, and shelter there isn't much they can do about how his father chooses to discipline him unless his injuries are more serious. Good luck |
