Has anyone on here ever hired someone by the hour to help you, and had that person spend a great deal of that time just talking about themselves? Any advice about how to most appropriately ask them to focus on the task (and not on him or herself)?

Can you say something like, "It's been nice chatting, but I'll let you get back to work" and then make yourself unavailable?
Sometimes the answers is to hire someone else, unfortunately. |

I like talking with you but I don't want to keep you from your work or simply leave the room

Maybe, "I work better when I'm focused on what I'm doing, maybe when we finish we will have time to chat."

FYI - Project is collaborative. We are working together. Think along the lines of a tutor, a counselor, etc.

Grip up and spill it. "I want to say this in the most polite and respectful way possible, but during the time for which I'm paying you, I need you to focus more on me."
