So I have issues with dissociative identity disorder, and its becoming a larger problem. Up until now, i had my different personalities, whatever, I got by. It has made starting new relationships difficult, but I was not in a relationship I cared too much about so it didnt matter.
Well now I am in love, totally and completely. Things have been going perfectly for over two months and I thought everything would be perfect, but now my other selves I guess are surfacing. Its harder for me to relate to my significant other and I am feeling like the relationship isn't working out or what i want. This isnt me. This is another me, and the other me is wrong. I havent felt love before, but i know this is it. I dont want to lose what I have, im afraid i will ruin my entire future. Please help! I am having a hard time controlling what is inside of me!

Do you see a therapist who could help you deal with the DID?

Everything is not going to be perfect, no matter who you are, or whether you have DID, or not.

Eventually, you need to talk with the person you love about your problem. Have you had any treatment for it? It may be a good thing that you are now motivated to want to manage your condition effectively, so you can have a future to look forward to.
Thanks for this!

Some MI's require a team effort to help everyone learn to deal, cope and address the symptoms. Maybe your new partner can attend an appointment with your therapist to learn about DID? Or find a support group for caregivers and partners?
Thanks for this!

Thanks for your reply.

Maybe now you do, with being in love and your concern over possibly losing that love.

What do you see as the drawbacks of it? What might you see as possible advantages of it?

One possibility would be to ask on the Dissociative Disorders forum what people there consider the pros and cons of seeing a therapist.
Thanks for this!

I think you are right, it may be something now that I should look into. Circumstances being what they are. I will ask on the dissociative identity forum...thank you so much. Really. You have helped me just by talking to me, and this is something important to me.
