I want to control myself. My father wants to control everything around him. Is is common for a child whom had controlling parents to want to have control of their self?

In my experience most human beings want to have control of their own self.
Who would want someone else to control them? Not many, I bet.

Yep it's common, and natural. Most people wish to have independence.

Lots of people want control of themselves. However, sometimes it can turn unhealthy.

Since your father was very controlling, it definitely makes sense that you want to have control of your own life.

It's very normal that you don't want him controlling you.

My mom told me that she was my mistress. Maybe my dad didn't like my mom controlling him.

Sometimes what is seen by children as controlling may be seen by parents as parenting/caring. The clash between the two views are so common in families. But you said in the title that your father was controlling you, so he is not doing so anymore?

No, my father is deceased. But, while he was alive he was controlling. My mom is also controlling. I think that is why they got divorced.
