I have to live near a man who is a jerk. He prides himself on being a bully to others, never hesitates to make complaints against any person, business or school that he feels wronged him somehow and if you dare stand up to him it's always your fault, never his. So on the few unfortunate occasions that my car has passed his in the neighborhood, I've waved. You know, trying to be the better person, trying to take the "high road", trying to be all those things my mother and church told me I should be to others. My husband also always waves at this man. Well, this man never waves back. Never waves back to me or my husband. So should I continue to wave? Continue to show this person that their foul behavior will not be mine? Or should I not wave anymore and save my energy?

If he is older (like me), he might not even be able to see that someone is waving. I am concentrating on driving and looking for pedestrians and other animals walking out into the street! The only time i wave is when somebody lets me merge and then its just thru the mirror, not the windows really.
Thanks for this!

No, he's not older. At least not old enough to where I'd give him a break and assume he's concentrating hard to drive safely or perhaps has vision problems. He's early 40's, like 43 or something.

You're quite right. I should keep waving. The one thing that control freaks like this man hate are people who can't be controlled.

I read only the title at first and thought "yeah, wave with your middle finger!"

LOL, ok, DON'T do that!

I'd continue to wave and not let this curmudgeon get you down.

I wouldn't wave. I'd salute him.

Ha ha!! You know, I've thought about doing that before. But then my civilized side takes over and forbids me from doing it.

It's OK if you want to try to kill him with kindness. Maybe on day he might he might appreciate it.

I wonder if he finds waving offensive? For the type of person you describe, the "everybody is my enemy" type, I find my energy is much more enjoyable for myself when I don't bother with attempts at interacting.
