I been diagnosed with thought disorder since middle school. I'm 26 now and it still affects me a great deal. Basically, it means my thoughts get really disorganized and I would make connections between ideas that aren't there and fail to see connections other ppl r making.

Formal term is derailment, meaning loose association. Ideas that are only loosely related or not at all regularly creeps into my conversations. Also, I can't answer a question without giving unnecessary, excessive details. After my diagnosis, I was put in special ed room in a regular public school and took most of my classes online.

Currently, I'm in college part time and working part time. Most people I meet talk to me, although less do than they talk to others. I kept my last job over 3 years bc my supervisor really worked with me. On the other hand, I stayed only 3 years bc a few of my coworkers didn't enjoy talking to me.

Normal?

You've done really well getting through school, working and going to college part time. I can see how you will struggle more than someone who doesn't have this disorder. The only thing I can think of is, not to think you know what others are thinking. It's a common thing we all do, we worry other's are judging us and don't accept us the way we are.

You said "because of few of my coworkers didn't enjoy talking to me."

Maybe you picked up on a vibe or something but we can't presume to know what others think of us. You are worried you aren't normal, you are very normal. I think we all struggle a bit with not being accepted for the way we are, but I think you will find a place you feel comfortable in once you have accepted yourself as you are. Best wishes to you.
Thanks for this!

Hi! So you do have a diagnosis....Are you the person who shared that often times when you speak at work the conversation is off? I remember people argued with me that there is nothing wrong with your conversations and your colleagues are jerks or something. I knew there is more to this.

First of all congratulations on managing your life so well. College, work etc sounds that you are doing well! And you accepted yourself and that's step one. Can I still be accepted when I have a moderate thought disorder?🏻Can I still be accepted when I have a moderate thought disorder?🏻Can I still be accepted when I have a moderate thought disorder?🏻Can I still be accepted when I have a moderate thought disorder?🏻sending you hugs

As about other things. My BF has severe OCD ( even on Meds life isn't easy) and Tourette's ( and ADD but that's just along with Tourette's )

He gives unnecessary details all the time, repeats same things and totally off topic very often along with stuff just coming out of his mouth..his doctors told him that with his level people are on disability. He flat refused. He has two college degrees and professional very demanding job. So it's doable. He received extended time in college due to his disability (it is a disability according to our state guidelines but he is not ON disability)

The way he handles it he is very up front about it, not to seek sympathy but so people don't get shocked if sh... comes out of his mouth. He announced it to my family first time he met them. Oh gee. They are cool with it. Heck my family routinely has their foot in their mouth and they aren't diagnosed with anything lol

Now outside of Meds for OCD he had years of CBT therapy which he found extremely helpful. He also often needs to stop during the conversation and sit quietly so he can refocus.

Also as an adult he received a lot of assistance from our states rehabilitation services ( his therapy was free etc), are you receiving any services? what state are you at? You qualify for life and should take advantage of it. My BF is in no need of that anymore but he did receive help both times he went to college.

Overall if people know of your struggles they might be more understanding. Sometimes people do not know and just assume things ( I often cut people slack because I teach spec ed and if people have trouble conversing I suspect there is more to the story and I am typically right. Others just get pissed lol)

Keep working hard in
College and at work! Let me know if you need any help with locating any resources in your state and again good job ruby Can I still be accepted when I have a moderate thought disorder?🏻Can I still be accepted when I have a moderate thought disorder?🏻Can I still be accepted when I have a moderate thought disorder?🏻
