What does it mean for you to care about someone? For someone to care about you?

Do you mean a therapist?

Depends on context. Can you provide us with some context for your questions? "Care" can be an action word or a feeling word or a bit of both I suppose depending on the context.

The reason I asked was because the thread might get moved to the general relationship area instead of this psychotherapy area.

Ok so, I feel like some of my friends I care about more than others, like I'm really happy for them when something good happens for them or I really want to know how they are doing, whereas some of my other friends I just dont really care about their lives at all, or if something good happens to them I get jealous. I just like hanging out with them.

In a nutshell, care to me is to feel a genuine interest in someone's well-being. This interest comes in levels and parts and is expressed based on those levels and parts.

I think care is attaching importance to things. I care about my best friend's day because she is important in my life. I don't really care what the scientific name for a cockroach is because I just can't see how that would matter at all in my everyday existence.

To care about someone and to have someone care about you is like allheart said, to genuinely care about there well being. To ask them how they are doing, to be there for them when they need you.

I know you're not asking about therapist's caring, but when I asked my t what it means when he says he cares about me, he says that it means he feels affectionate towards me and wishes good things for me and is interested in my well-being and the outcome of events in my personal life.

I don't know and I don't say I care about someone and when someone says they care about me I get suspicious. Why do they need to tell me this? They should just show it by their actions.

For me it's the little things. When a friend holds open a door or offers to help carry what's in your hand. An offer for a coffee and a drop by for hello.
