I have a blog with a regular following. I am posting some information that is quite new and I have identified when it first was published and when I first found out about it. Nevertheless, somebody is turning it into an insult to people who made a big impression but probably retired from teaching before any of this information was published. I have explained that it can't be an insult because there's no way they knew about it, and the researchers did not do their work in order to insult anybody but were following where the information led.
Has anybody seen this before and how did it work out? |

I watched a quasi friendship diminish on the spot on social media just because I reshared a news article minus any commentary. Had known her since hs, sort of, was one of those lost contact, oh great, look it's fb reacquainted types of "friends". Was told that I couldn't be reasoned with because I reshared that news article. She flew off the handle because she was insulted by the content of the news article. How dare I even post a news article.
So, as far as that part of your opening post goes, yep....been there, done that and solidly closed that door. Welcome to PC. |

If there's one thing that's constant in this world - it's change (sorry, cliché).
So yes, likely a lot has changed since the researchers first looked into the subject at hand. Pending on the target audience, they may or may not have been offended. Sounds like it could be a bit of a subjective blog that you made open to interpretation and debate so yes likely people will have opposing sides. My view? There's nothing wrong with a healthy 'discussion' and being respectful of other's opinions. That's quite fine by me. But open arguing on blogs - where it's disrespectful - is not okay. Hopefully you have a way to block the members if they are causing you too much unrest. |

Berenkatal - can you give us an overview of the topic of the blog? It might help us contextualise the source of contention and just how controversial it may have been viewed by others?
