I really feel I should redress the balance here. Thats not to belittle the oP's thread. If that's how she feels, then that's how she feels. I like people. Twice recently I've been out for the first time with different local social groups. Both times I've met nice friendly, welcoming people. I generally find that if I put a bit of effort in then the vast majority of people are nice. Some are very shy and reserved and a very small minority are nasty. Project a positive friendly persona and ditch anyone that's negative.

In my personal experience ( and I am 50 and lived on two different continents and I know a lot of people ) most people are nice and I like people very much. Sure there are some nasty people out there and there are some vicious criminals but they are certainly in a minority. Yes most people are friendly and welcoming anywhere I go.

I personally think when people insist that others are all unfriendly, intolerant, nasty or unwelcoming it is something that THEY need to work on: either their perception of people or how they approach people or what type of people they attract and why and how to change it.

Ptang I am so glad you have this positive experience. You seem like a nice friendly easy going person so I'm not surprised people warm to you.

I like people in general too, and think the diversity of the human race is fascinating.

I agree. We all have dark days, sometimes I have really dark days, and I just need to walk through them. But the vast majority of the time, I feel that people are good. What do you yourself want, at your very core? To love and be loved, to be accepted, to be liked. Well, that's all that every single other person you share your air with wants as well, really. I feel like, when I keep that at the forefront of my thoughts, my day goes better.

I do also agree there are far more decent people roaming on this spinning rock than mean nasty types.

Might sound weird but bumping into a nasty one here and there helps remind us of that.

Well said. I like to believe in the inate goodness in people though modern society does try to turn us into distorted versions of our true selves,
