My mother just said to me I don't have a boyfriend because I just do stupid things all because I put makeup on my face. To be honest if I am to ****ed up for a boyfriend I don't care there loss. Yes I am ****ed up for anyone but no one has helped me pick up my peices so their opinion means nothing.

My mom has always been harsh and critical but she's gotten much worse the last few years: Where I shop, how much or how little make up I wear, the length of my hair, why didn't I get the job, why don't I have a spouse, etc. etc. etc.

Always been emotionally distant too, plus undemonstrative. No hugs, no kisses, not even a hello good to see you.

yes, I'm hooked up on this make-up thing wondering what your mother's problem is with it. Am I to understand that it is left in a mess? Am I to understand she thinks you wear too much of it? So too, I'm not sure how she is making a link between this and a lack of a relationship.

If it were about the mess, I do have a few thoughts on this; as a mother. I am assuming you are living at home. When it came to my own daughter I had expectations regarding responsibilities for personal posessions - especially when it came to cleanliness. I admit I myself had my own anger at her failure to respect that.

Have you sat down with her and discussed her expectations? Perhaps you both can make some concessions.

Regardless, mom's reactions sound a bit much. Talk to her after she's had an opportunity to calm down.

My final thought again pertains to her expectations. Not sure your age; but ultimately if you are living at her home it is a case of her rules run the roost.

Yeah, I have come to a comprimise I help her with the dishes and my room and when she finds out I am good at my sisters house she is easy. She only yells if I make mess and I don't want her to yell so I don't want to make mess.
