I have gotten volunteer work helping at spare parts puppet theatre ushering and helping children make puppets and I am very excited. My mother has been stern that she doesn't want me to worry her about putting me in fremantle but to organise my own transportation. I will need a working with children check but I know thats easy to get. I haven't been this excited in years I guess I am so happy that I am adding it to my life experience and seeing it as an adventure. I still have problems with spending my money and not being impossible but I am sure I can put a few dollars away for transport.

This is great!

I have begun my own volunteering endeavours - all as part of the gradual transition back to the workforce. I now volunteer for two agencies for a total of about 6-8 days per month. It has now been about 3 months and the level of responsibility in my activities has increased as that time hs gone by.

The volunteering has been very good for my mental health. Confidence has increased while Anxiety has decreased accordingly.

That's wonderful & should open you up to so many other possibilities. Working with children is very rewarding (I used to teach), and you will make friends from other workers and artistic types.

Well done!

When do you start and what kind of time commitment is this? Again, I am absolutely thrilled for you!

Will you help design the puppets? Does this involve artistic abilities?

Are you starting your volunteer work after your vacation or before?

Volunteer work is great for everyone to do. The organizations should be treating you well because you are giving of yourself to help them, therefore, you don't get the same kind of stress like from a paying job. It gives you a purpose and you can feel appreciated.

Exactly! I find it far less anxiety raising than a job. As you are not being paid there doesn't exist the investment in you that you perform to extpectations. Similarly, there can be less investment of yourself; as, not being paid, you don't feel the need to perform.

I have never been called aside to discuss my performance in a volunteer situation.

Remember too that being a volunteer in an organization there is a wider variety of people with different skills and levels of performance. Personally I don't find the drive to be above average - and the organization doesn't expect that of you either.

Yet, being less inclined to out-do myself and being able to just enjoy myself, the above average performance just seems to follow.
Thanks for this!

I always perform better when I do it volunteering rather then being paid because volunteering I know one hundred percent I am unconditional using my time to help someone selflessly. I guess I need to also think a paid job as selfless I am still helping people I am just getting paid for it.

That is a very good way to frame your thinking

My dream was always to be a useful member of society I guess I realize I can do all my creative dreams, do paid work and volunteering and be a complete member of society. That will make me so happy just knowing I am so useful and completed all of my dreams and etc

Not having to work is a great job if you can get it. Lol

Most people don't have the option to not work for money because they need to make money to live. I assume you are living off your parents and they are enabling you.

But you realize that she is? Do you really want to be enabled? or do you want to stand on your own & be independent?
